BORGAFJÄLL, reference project #2

Borgafjäll hotel was designed by Ralph Erskine in 1948. The hotel is well known in the Scandinavian mountain region.  The original building has undergone a number of renovations and extensions. At the end of the 1990s the hotel changed owner and the new owner were keen to realize the hotels potential and original qualities. The proposal develops and applies the original theories of Ralph Erskines arctic building program. The building "shield" to the cold northern winds is completed, creating a south facing protected courtyard from which the building is entered.
